I was asked recently by my mentor, Szymon, to share my experience of the business of yoga and finding a job in the yoga world after I received my 200 hour certificate. Currently, I am sitting here in the studio that hired me directly out of my teacher training, Healing Elements, where I teach 3 classes a week.
"I was also able to grow within the studio and become the studio manager and am in charge of the operations of the studio."
By using my knowledge I obtained in TTC, I have been able to open new doors and help inspire myself and others with a Hatha/Power Vinyasa class. I was also able to grow within the studio and become the studio manager and am in charge of the operations of the studio. We currently have retail, massage therapy, intuitive healers, and several workshops. I have also had the opportunity to teach my own workshops and am planning to teach one in Costa Rica later this spring. I would not have had the confidence to lead a partner-yoga workshop had I not had the guidance of Vinay and Szymon. I believe receiving this certificate along with my experience in holistic healthcare, helped me achieve my personal and professional goals in the world of yoga.
I know every journey is different, but I am writing in hopes to inspire a future teacher or student who has a similar vision that I have/had. Certainly nothing in life is simply given to you; you must put in energy to receive energy. You must practice the yamas in niyamas during your yoga journey and learn how to apply them to your life. You must breathe. You must practice asanas and meditation.
"You must learn to inspire others and to teach others from your heart."
I would not be here today, about to teach my third yoga class of the day, had I not followed my heart and my dreams. I leave you with a lesson from my favorite yama, Ahimsa: “How we treat ourselves is in truth how we treat those around us. If you are critical of yourself, others will feel your high expectations of themselves as well. If you are light hearted and forgiving with yourself, others will feel the ease and joy of being with you”… (Deborah Adele, “The Yamas and Niyamas Exploring Yoga’s Ethical Practice, 30).
Be good to yourself and good will happen.
